Country music superstar Ashley McBryde has broken her silence on the harrowing intervention that saved her life—revealing she woke up in another female artist's bed, wearing borrowed pajamas, only to find her entire team waiting to confront her about her alcoholism.
In an exclusive, emotional interview on The BobbyCast, the Grammy winner described the moment she realized her drinking had spiraled out of control. "I woke up at another artist's house, another female artist. And if I told you who, you would not be shocked," McBryde told host Bobby Bones. "I woke up in a bed that's not mine, in pajamas that aren't mine, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, that must have been a doozy.’"
Disoriented and thirsty, she stumbled into the living room—where her team and the unnamed artist were gathered. "I looked at them, and that artist was also on the couch, and I said, 'Okay, I don't know where my boots are, but I need my boots.' And they said, 'We need you to stop.'"
McBryde didn't resist. "I said, 'I need me to stop too,'" she recalled. That's when she learned the shocking truth: the fellow artist had taken her home that night "to make sure I didn't die."
The 42-year-old singer, known for hits like "Girl Goin' Nowhere," admitted the reality hit hard. "I was gonna die," she said bluntly. That fear kept her in rehab when she checked in shortly after the 2022 intervention. "I cannot fathom or make up for how much I put them through. And that's another reason to stay [in rehab], is I didn't die, and I'm hurting me whatever, and I'm hurting them," she explained. "And if this goes any farther, this is really, really ugly. This is like, they'll-have-to-make-a-movie-about-it bad."
McBryde, who has released four studio albums, said she waited a year to speak publicly to avoid social media scrutiny. "Because what I didn't need was people on social media being like, 'Ashley McBryde swears off alcohol!'" she said. "All people are gonna do is just wait for you to screw up, and that's really annoying. I did it for me. I didn't do it for social media."
Since getting sober, her life has transformed. In November 2023, she shared that her career and personal well-being have soared—proving that sometimes, rock bottom leads to a breakthrough.
