Forget typical movie soundtracks—the cast of Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride! built their characters through a chaotic, year-long music exchange that's still going strong. "Christian Bale is a complete music obsessive," reveals Jessie Buckley. "We barely spoke on set—just bombarded each other with songs. It became our secret language for creating these monsters."

The musical madness started when Bale sent Gyllenhaal a Sid Vicious video performing "My Way"—instantly defining their Frankenstein as "punk in that classic 1981 London way." From there, their group chat exploded into what Buckley calls "a sonic Frankenstein's monster" itself, blending punk legends with unexpected gems.

"We had everything from Spiritualized's heartbreaking Ladies and Gentlemen to the absolutely filthy 1920s track 'Shave 'Em Dry,'" Buckley laughs. "PJ Harvey, the Pogues, Sinead O'Connor, Björk's Vespertine—it was this wild mashup of punk-rock energy and vintage raunch that perfectly captured our characters' raw, untamed souls."

For the film's dark romance, Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You" became the emotional anchor, with Buckley quoting the iconic line: "'I could drink a case of you and still be on my feet'—that's the addiction at the heart of this love story."

Even though filming wrapped over a year ago, the musical bond refuses to die. "We're still pinging songs daily," Buckley confesses. "The film is locked, but our playlist keeps evolving. It's like we created this living, breathing soundtrack that won't quit."
