Clear eyes, full hearts, and now an Oscar win for Michael B. Jordan.

At the 2026 Academy Awards, Sinners star Michael B. Jordan clinched the Best Actor trophy, but it was his heartfelt gesture toward former Friday Night Lights co-star Jesse Plemons that stole the spotlight. As Jordan accepted the award, cameras captured Plemons giving a standing ovation from the front row alongside his wife, Kirsten Dunst. In a poignant moment, Jordan paused on his way offstage to point directly at Plemons, thumping his chest twice in a nod to their shared past on the beloved TV series. Plemons responded with a beaming smile and a reciprocal point, encapsulating a bond forged over a decade ago.

Jordan and Plemons first shared the screen as Vince Howard and Landry Clarke in the fourth and fifth seasons of Friday Night Lights, a show set in the fictional town of Dillon, Texas. Their reunion last year for TheEntBase's Actor on Actors series highlighted how the series shaped their careers. "We were kids, but we did not know that. We thought we were grown," Plemons recalled, with Jordan adding, "You're like the original, OG cast. I'm like the new addition that popped in." Both actors described the show as a "formative experience" that transformed their approach to acting, emphasizing improvisation and character ownership.

Reflecting on their time on the series, Jordan noted, "The idea of always being 'on' and ready to adapt... was the expectation and responsibility that you had on that show." Plemons echoed this, calling the experience "anarchy, to a degree," and crediting it with teaching him that "really good work can come out of the sense of play and exploration."

This awards season saw both actors in the spotlight: Jordan won the Oscar and Actor Award for his roles in Sinners, while Plemons earned nominations for an Actor, a BAFTA, and a Golden Globe for Bugonia, though he was notably snubbed in the Oscars' Best Actor category. Despite this, Plemons expressed pride in Jordan's success, telling him during their interview, "When good people do great things, it feels like a win for everyone, man."
