Courteney Cox's latest Scream 7 viewing left her with more than just jump scares—it triggered a real-life bathroom phobia that's haunting her daily routine.
The actress, reprising her role as Gale Weathers, revealed on The Tonight Show that a preview of the horror sequel was so terrifying, she couldn't even risk a bathroom break. "I'm naturally jumpy—birds, noises, everything spooks me," Cox confessed. "But after seeing Ghostface hide under a stall in Scream 7, I'm now checking for black boots every time I use a restroom."

Ghostface's bathroom ambushes are a franchise hallmark—from Sidney's near-miss in the 1996 original to Phil's demise in a theater stall in 1997. Cox's fear isn't just movie magic; it's spilled into reality. "I really needed to go, but I was too scared," she admitted, adding that parking lots and other everyday spots now feel like potential kill zones.
In a desperate move, Cox tried to recruit her daughter, Coco Arquette, as a bathroom bodyguard. "Coco said, 'I don't want to miss the movie!'" Cox recalled. They settled for a phone call instead, where Cox attempted a Ghostface impression that flopped. "I tried, 'Do you like scary movies?' but I sounded awful. Coco just called me dumb."
Beyond the scares, Cox teased Scream 7's emotional core. "Sidney Prescott returns, and her daughter, played by Isabel May, is amazing. It's a mother-daughter dynamic with real heart—just kidding, it's scary and gripping, but there's depth too."
Scream 7 hits theaters this Friday. Watch Cox's full interview in the video above, and maybe skip the bathroom breaks until after the credits roll.
