Teyana Taylor has responded to backlash over her enthusiastic celebration of Amy Madigan's Oscar victory, defending her genuine display of sportsmanship.
A viral clip from Sunday's Academy Awards showed Taylor immediately standing to applaud when Madigan, 75, won Best Supporting Actress for "Weapons"—her first Oscar after a 40-year gap since her initial nomination. The "One Battle After Another" star took to social media to address critics questioning her heartfelt reaction.
"The world holds so much misery that miserable hearts forget the face of happiness," Taylor wrote. "They grow comfortable being sore losers, so when they see real sportsmanship it unsettles them! like holy water touching a demon."
She emphasized that celebrating others' successes requires grace many haven't learned: "how to win with grace & pure joy, and how to lose with grace, chin up & dignity."

Both Taylor and Madigan were nominated in the same category, alongside Elle Fanning ("Sentimental Value"), Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas ("Sentimental Value"), and Wunmi Mosaku ("Sinners"). Madigan's win marks a historic achievement—the longest gap between nominations for any actress, spanning four decades since her 1985 nod for "Twice in a Lifetime."
In her acceptance speech, Madigan thanked director Zach Cregger for "a dream part" and praised her fellow nominees. She also gave a heartfelt shout-out to her husband, Ed Harris: "None of this would mean anything if he wasn't by my side."
Post-win, Madigan expressed admiration for Taylor in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight," calling her "the best supporter" and celebrating their newfound friendship.
